Why Do My Career Options Seem So Boring?

I’ve noticed how people who say “life is boring” have one thing in common. They expect life to entertain them.

Real excitement is not found in being entertained but in changing the world based on how you are designed by God. When you change the world in the way that God designed you, you feel real excitement. Why? Because you are taking a risk. You are operating how God designed you.

The bedfellows of “life is boring” are “how do I make money without doing anything?” and “everything I’m doing right now is not important”. If what you are doing right now is not important, then why are you doing it? What is the point of making money if the world is not different in some way after your trip here? If you don’t want to do anything with life then why are you trying to be the person that everyone wants to admire at the same time?

Why do so few people understand how they change the world? One reason is because we are taught to look after ourselves. This seems natural in a competitive world but it is not the way that you find excitement in life. You find purpose in life when you change the world.

Changing the world is not easy. Every day you can only change the world a little. For days, months or years it could seem like you’re making no change at all. During these times you are experiencing the opposite of excitement but thoughts of profound significance. What am I designed to do? Who do I need to help? How do I bring life to the world?

I can’t understand people who stop questioning life. It is only by working through the stage of profound questions that you get to the next stage of finding deep answers. Then you do it again and again. This is what has caused me to keep changing careers and live on three continents. There is no point in living a middle of the road life. There is only a life of complete surrender to God’s plan.

Jesus said in Matthew 7:7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” The key to happiness is not in trying to be happy all the time. Happiness is an indirect result of persisting.

Keep on asking God for the change you are called to make in the world. Keep on seeking products and services that will enable you to fulfill your calling. Keep on knocking on doors until the world changes. Live life like this and it will never be boring again!
